As almost all the carnivals, that of Amélie-les- Bains has very old origins which we can determine. An article of the "Mail of Céret " of March 18th, 1888 described a cavalcade. In archives, we find photos of the grotesque parties of the 1900s. However since 1945, it always took place.
The festivities to which give rise the carnival of Amélie-les-Bains in the course of February always knew a big success. In the cavalcades of highly decorated with flowers and multicoloured tanks which liven up the city center, are added the famous "Grégoire Améliens", the name given to the persons dressed in white who, at the end the festivities walk "King Carnival" in the streets of the city, before burning him in the open. Balls and animations for youngs and the big come to punctuate the festivities throughout these days dedicated to this tradition strongly anchored in the history of our city.
